2014 MDTMP implements a Clozapine Peer Support Project with the Boley Centers and Henderson Behavioral Health

Clozapine Peer Support Specialist Project

The goal of this initiative is to encourage the use of Clozapine for treatment resistant individuals with Schizophrenia treated at Henderson Behavioral Health.  Clozapine has shown to be successful for treating refractory schizophrenia; however, its use requires frequent monitoring and blood testing which makes it difficult for patients to consider or continue taking this medication.  For many individuals, Clozapine is the drug of last resort when other medications have failed to control the symptoms of schizophrenia.

This initiative proposes to provide individuals who are considering the use of Clozapine, or have recently started taking Clozapine, with peer support. This will be provided by individuals who have successfully taken Clozapine, who will be trained as peer supporters, and will provide such support through groups and one-on-one assistance.
